Small groups,  superb walks,  great locations

Our guided walking adventures are suitable for singles, couples and groups of friends. Many of our guests have not been on a walking holiday before but are likely to be regular walkers or be fit from other activities.
Most of our walking holidays are of seven night duration but may be extended by adding other options. The walks are the result of years of personal experience living in Spain and walking in the Parques Natural of Andalucia and the Rif mountains in Morocco. All our walking holidays are high in content and value, with most guests coming by way of recommendation or repeat visits.

Competa our walking holiday base

Cómpeta Based
This spectacular white town has been the home of Spanish Steps for over 20 years. Located on the very edge of the high sierras makes it is a perfect hiking location with stunning views of the mountains and down to the Mediterranean. Accommodation for the week is in our personal Casa Rurale just off the main Plaza Almijara in Cómpeta. Meals and breakfasts are provided at excellent local restaurants and many of the walks start from the house. A truly special and very Spanish environment for a walking holiday.

Spanish Steps guided walking holiday

The Silk Trail
This unique  ' trail ' walks the length of the south facing slopes of the Sierra Tejeda and Sierra Almijara, connecting pretty white villages on the way. It starts high in the sierras to the west and ends in the east where the mountains dramatically drop to the Mediterranean. Accommodation for the first three nights in Cómpeta or adjacent village of Canillas de Albaida. The next two nights are spent in Frigiliana and the final two nights in the pretty coastal village of Maro.

Ronda walking holiday

Route of the Pueblos Blancos
The famous white towns and villages around Ronda and Grazalema have long been a destination for discerning travellers. This 7 night guided linear walk through spectacular scenery connects five different pueblos blancos. On route we stay in delightful accommodation in three of our favourite pueblos. Meals are provided at good local restaurants and bags are transported between locations. The accommodation in Montejaque and Grazalema both have swimming pools.

Journey through al Andalus - El Torcal

Journey through al Andalus
This ' Rail & Hike' adventure visits some of the finest historical towns in Moorish Spain plus exceptional walks and hikes in stunning locations. Starting in Granada, the journey goes west to Ronda via Antequera and Córdoba. It ends in Malaga after stop-over in the Guadalhorce Parque Natural and the chance to walk the spectacular Caminito del Rey. On route, we stay in delightful hotels and eat in excellent local restaurants. Daily walks are up to 5 hours and travel between locations is by Spain's impressive  high speed rail network. What better way for 'walking people' to enjoy the best of Andalucia?

Spanish Steps

Two Continents
This exciting 8-day walking holiday includes walks in Spain and Morocco. The first two nights are spent in Tarifa, with the first walk high above the Straights of Gibraltar. We then cross to Africa for a coastal walk with great views back to Europe and then continue to Chefchaouen, surely the prettiest and most magical town in Morocco. We stay for three nights with walks in the Rif mountains countryside and villages. The last two nights are spent in Fés,  the oldest and most interesting of the 'imperial' cities in Morocco.
