A really big thank-you organising a fantastic holiday for us in Competa and for your tips and maps for Granada and Malaga. The walking party seemed just the right size and range of abilities for the various walks you selected for us. It is obviously a real credit to you that so many of the party had returned following previous holidays with you. The variety of restaurants and food was wonderful, giving us a true insight into Spanish cooking and it was really nice to be welcomed by the owners and staff in each in such a friendly way. In terms of value, great walks, accommodation and food, the trip far exceeded our expectations. Andy & Ros (Warks) Oct 2015
What a great holiday! Everything I hoped for and much more! I can’t thank you and Andy enough. The walks, the views, the company, the accommodation, the food and wine…….. everything was excellent. (The only complaint is that at times there was too much food!)
I found some of the walks quite tough and challenging, but that was what I wanted – to see how far I could push myself. Andy was a very good leader; he was really encouraging and made it clear that we could all do the walk in our own time, and take rests when needed! And what a sense of achievement on reaching the top of the climb! Thank you again. Allison (Northants) Oct 2015
Thank you so much for such an amazing and special holiday. I was not sure what to expect, when I arrived in Spain but was so impressed with the care you took to ensure that we were all included, and never had an empty glass in our hands. I will certainly be recommending Spanish Steps to my walking friends and hope that I can come again on one of your holidays. Joe (East Yorks) Sept 2015
So many thanks for a really wonderful holiday. We both had such a great time. We cannot thank you enough for your great hospitality, it is a holiday we will never forget. Thank you also for the great pictures. Chrissie and Kay (York) May 2015
Safely home again after a wonderful holiday. Sue, we were so well looked after by you, by Andy & by all the people in Competa who fed us. The walks were sensational, the house just lovely but I think the thing that makes you special is that you make it personal by your friendly involvement. You were both generous with your time & your interest in every guest & generous with the little extra touches. It was lovely that you joined us for meals as well. So many “corporate” companies would not have bothered, you did & it made all the difference. So thank you both very much, we had a blast. Sally and Bill (East Sussex) April 2015
We had an absolutely fabulous holiday. Thank you both for making it so special. The week was amazing and we enjoyed every minute. That was a little lie – maybe I didn’t enjoy absolutely every minute…..I do apologise for being scared rigid even when poor Andy was barely in 2nd gear!!!Our group really got on so well and we had so many good laughs. If we could do it all again we would jump at it. Liam and Claire (Dumphries October 2014
Thanks so much for a lovely holiday. The week lived up to our expectations — in fact exceeded them — in every way. The house was great, the walks were great, the company was great… My only complaint would be that I expect to lose weight on a walking holiday but you made that impossible. The food was a definite highlight. Lesley (London) October 2014
A huge thank you from Brian and myself for a fantastic holiday! The walking, the food, the house and the weather was beyond our expectations! A big thank you to Andy and Ian for keeping us on the right track. It was our first visit to Spain and it won’t be our last and we will definitely be back.Thank you again Beverley and Brian (West Yorkshire) Cómpeta High Peaks Oct 2014
It was magic! What you provide is very special and unigue. I loved eating in local restaurants , fabulous walks – even managed a swim on coastel walk – loved house in Competa – you made it a home from home . Friends of mine have booked Competa few days ago – I envy them already! Bernice (Ireland) Competa High Peaks October 2014
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and Andy for the most fantastic holiday. You made us feel so welcome and at ease with each other, and your house is one of the loveliest places I’ve stayed at. The walking was a lovely mix and although we were all a bit puffed out at times, the grading seemed perfect. The food and walking fuel was most welcome! The range of restaurants and lunch stops were perfect It will be impossible to find a better walking holiday. Jan and Diane (Cardiff) October 2014
I can honestly say that this was one of the best holidays I have ever been on. It more than lived up to my expectations. The stunning scenery, really good company, lovely food & drink, quirky accommodation & to top all that was Andy, a true gentleman, the way he looked after the group was exceptional, always thoughtful & caring, a great guide. My only regret is that I haven’t been on one of your walking holidays long before now, but with continued good health & fitness I intend to make amends for this in the future. Geraldine (Donegal) May 2014.
Thank you both very much for another memorable holiday and wonderful week with Spanish Steps – great walks and top class restaurants and food. Your generous hospitality and attention to looking after the group were very much appreciated. We can hardly believe the week is over and we are back in cold wet Cumbria. You’ve had nearly 20 years of practising but you have certainly found the right formula! Chris and Dorothy (Cumbria) March 2014
You have obviously worked hard at choosing walks, restaurants and little ‘touches’ which make the holiday an all round terrific experience. Andy and I felt it was excellent value for money and your hospitality and warm personalities made it all the more special. Andy & Sue (Lancs) May 2014
Everybody I know has heard about my beautiful holiday in Competa-the beautiful accommodation, scenery, food and company but particularly how well we were looked after and the attention to detail. The fact that our mixed group relaxed together so quickly and got on well was down to the atmosphere you created. Thanks again to you all and take care. Fiona (Ireland ) Easter 2014
I would like to thank you and to say how very much I enjoyed my stay with you last week. There were so many highlights and so many unexpected surprises that you so kindly added. I was extremely lucky to have such wonderful companions to share the house with too! It was certainly a holiday to remember and I loved it. Maureen (London) March 2014
The holiday exceeded my expectations. The walking was great with good scenery and views. What I particularly enjoyed was eating at different Restaurants. I felt we were treated like locals as Peter seemed to be on good terms with all the people running the Restaurants. I did not feel like a Tourist and I am already looking forward to another Holiday with Spanish Steps. Mike (Kent) Easter 2014
I’m still thinking of sun drenched tracks, clear blue skies, startling green lakes, glimpses of sea, champagne by the riverside, an ice cold paddle, chitter chatter, valley beds, rocky peaks, Maroma with its cold top and long approach and even longer escape!, hidden villages, El Acebuchal the lost village, homemade bread and glorious salad, Sedella’s roman bridge, EAGLES, bird song aplenty, flowers galore – pink, yellow, red, orange, purple and yes even green fauna, rosemary and lemon thyme, the long HOT toil to a COLD beer, goats that look like deer, Peter’s laugh, amazing house with its cosy corners, cobbled meandering streets, roof top sunny terraces, Pericos eggs and bacon, Paco’s dreamy view, Antonio’s surprises!, Antonio’s welcome, Antonio’s smile!, San Miguel, food glorious food (please Sir, can I have some more!), Andy’s careful and cheerful guiding, Andy’s happy nature ….. Then throw in Peter and Sue’s magic formula of fantastic hospitality, flexibility, knowledge, friendliness, professionalism and what do you have. The perfect stress free holiday. Mary (Ireland) Easter 2014
The selection of walks was stunning with every day giving a different perspective of the hills, mountains, valleys and villages around Competa. From the 8am church bell to the last toll at 10pm we had so much fun. We all appreciated the delicious food and the warm welcome we had from the restaurants you chose for our meals. We’ve all returned with happy memories that we will talk about for years to come. Best wishes to you and Sue. Margaret and friends (Surrey) October 2013.
I would like to thank you for the wonderful holiday we have just experienced. We have never booked a walking holiday before but we have both said that it has been the best experience of a ‘different’ kind of holiday that we have ever had. The walks were really good and we loved the house and the area and totally enjoyed the meals that we had. What a wonderful part of the world and many thanks for looking after us so well. Johnny & Joan, (Northumberland) October 2013.
Many thanks to you and Sue for a unique and memorable holiday. I’ve been talking about it ever since my return home! Very best wishes to you both. Jackie (Surrey) October 2013
It was one of those very memorable holidays – quite unique – and difficult to replicate. Your formula for the holiday and your attention to detail are formidable and were so much appreciated. Please do not retire!!, Carol (Sweden) October 2013
Thank you so much for the fabulous time we had on your walking holiday.I don’t think it will be the only holiday we will have with you! We will certainly recommend your holidays and we have told loads of friends how wonderful it was. Del & Mike (Cumbria) October 2013

It was great meeting and walking with you all, it was a wonderful week. Clare and I may have caught the walking bug, Peak District or the Brecons next! Gary (Hertfordshire) October 2013.
We had a wonderful time with you both, and Andy of course, who is just lovely. As always, you and Peter looked after us and the group to a standard that we’ve never experienced elsewhere. Returning to Competa for the village based holiday was great – and the walks pretty challenging to put it mildly! Once again, thank you for a wonderful week and hopefully, there’s more miles in the boots yet for another Spanish Steps experience. Dave & Marie (Kent & Hartlepool)) Cómpeta ‘High Peaks’ May 2013.
Once again a brilliant week.… spending time (and lots of laughter) with some lovely people in your beautiful house in Competa and meeting Andy after hearing so much about him. You are fantastic hosts and we always return home after a Spanish Steps holiday feeling rather sad that its ended. Bring on the next ‘special’ adventure! Linda & John (Surrey) Cómpeta ‘High Peaks’ May2013.
In all the 11 walking holidays I’ve completed this one stands out the most! Thank you and Sue also for your generous hospitality and Andy’s reassurance. Joyce (Bournemouth) May 2013.
Many thanks for a wonderful holiday and so many wonderful memories. Judith and I really enjoyed our walking holiday and that was due to the efforts of you, Sue and Andy, not forgetting a great group of people that we walked with, Antonio, Pepe and his endearing wife, all at Pericos, wonderful scenery, great walks, good food, cold beer, tinto de verano, moscatel, where do I stop…Looking forward to our next walking holiday with Spanish Steps. Keith & Judith (Tyne & Wear) May2013

Thanks Peter. Another memorable adventure. Oh, and the recommended tapas bar in Malaga, where they serve brandy in goldfish bowls, was just what I needed! Ron, (Flintshire) May 2013.
Now safely home and already a week of work – with some walking – and extremes of Scottish temperature – 20 degrees last weekend and down to 10 this! We are sustained in all this with the very best of memories of our wonderful holiday in Cómpeta and environs. Looking at the photos bought back lovely memories. I hope to join you sometime next year for another holiday – possibly including Morocco. Frances (Southhampton) April 2013.
I really cannot thank you enough for the wonderful holiday we had at your beautiful house in Competa. The attention to the little extra details, (like the wine for instance) and your hospitality were really appreciated. I especially enjoyed all the eating out at local hostalries, this gave us a taste of the real Spain, the characters as well as the food! The walks were fantastic and the views were just amazing!! You are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. All in all many, many thanks for a fabulous week. Carole, (Lancs) April 2013.

Just a note to thank you once again for a most wonderful week. It is hard to find the right words to express how much it meant to me. You both are truly gifted at creating just the right atmosphere for total strangers to feel like old friends in such a short period of time. Your little village and the surrounding hills will be in my heart forever. Lorraine (Canada), April 2013.
We both had great time and if we get there next year it will be my twentieth holiday with Spanish Steps. Starting training for next year! Barry & Kath, (Yorkshire) March 2013.
I would like to thank you for a wonderful week in Competa I really enjoyed everything about the holiday. The house was just beautiful to stay in. The walks were most enjoyable and what can I say about the great food and drink we had. The company really helped to make the holiday most enjoyable and Peter and Sue your generosity and thoughtfulness really made the holiday for me…. Bernie, (Galway) Sept 2012.
It was a fab holiday. I loved the house and relaxed atmosphere, great walks, good company and it is lovely eating in lots of different restaurants and tapas bars. I can’t believe sitting here in the cold and rain (Jubliee w/e!!) that we were all so hot and enjoying endless sunshine in Competa such a short time ago… Eve, (Kent) May 2012.
I deliberately wanted to come back to something familiar, as I had slightly lost my nerve travelling on my own abroad, and I got exactly what I hoped for and more. The way you have developed your walks is excellent and your prices are still incredibly good value…. Rupert. (London) October 2012.
Many thanks for a truly great holiday we all really enjoyed it. All aspects of the Holiday surpassed my expectations, the walks, the food and wine [to much I fear ] the house and of course the company. The group was great fun. You guys do a great job and I only wish we had found you earlier…. Geraldine, (Kent) May 2012.
