Cómpeta Based Walking Holiday
Cómpeta is a thriving  'pueblo blanco' nestling under the Sierras Almijara and Tejeda, just 12 miles from the Mediterranean and an hour by road from Malaga airport. The south facing slopes enjoy one of the sunniest climates in Europe and provide wonderful and varied opportunities for walking for many months of the year. The pueblo has been our base in Spain for many years and Spanish Steps is very much a part of the local Spanish community.

Cómpeta

village2

village3 Accommodation for the holiday is in our delightfully restored old village house in the heart of Cómpeta. Furnished in Moorish style, the house has eight bedrooms, five bathrooms, sitting and dining rooms, all for sole use of guests. The wine rack is well stocked at the start of each holiday and there are two kitchens with facilities for guests to prepare their own drinks and snacks. In the warmer months The extensive roof terraces are well used and there is a hotel swimming pool available not far away. When the nights are cooler, the log fire in the main sitting room is a great attractiong. Located close to the Plaza Almijara with its ancient church, small shops and restaurants, the house provides a unique, enjoyable and truly Spanish environment for the holiday.

Meals throughout the week are taken at a variety of our favourite local restaurants. Some are simple and others are sophisticated, but they all provide excellent local cuisine and great atmosphere. Each meal is an occasion and we are delighted with at the quality of meals and wine that we are able to provide. Cooked as well as continental breakfasts are provided within the cost of the holiday. For lunch we sometimes take picnics into the hills and other days stop for tapas at villages on the route. Cerro Atalaya
La Mina La Maroma Walks are chosen to suit the seasons and weather. The Sierras Tejeda and Almijara offer a great variety of high qualty walks and many ancient paths have recently been restored. Cómpeta is at a height of 2,000 feet and the highest peak in our sierras is La Maroma at 6,700 feet. Some of the walks start from the house and for others we use our 4x4 vehicles to get to paths that are little known and rarely walked. We provide five walking days with a rest day normally on Thursday for holidays that start on Sundays. The walks are all optional and are generally between 5 and 6 hours. The terrain is sometimes hilly but there are no time constraints and the pace in keeping with the relaxed life style and sunny warm climate of Andalucia.
