Grazalema Two Center
This self guided walking holiday is based on our guided Route of the Pueblos Blancos holiday. The first four nights are spent in Montejaque and the final three nights in Grazalema. Both villages are within 2 hours by road from Malaga airport and the road journey between the two pueblos is about 30 minutes. Seville and Jerez airports are also less than 2 hours by road. Both centers have pools that can be used in the warmer months. A self-drive hire car is provided for airport transfers, transport to walks, change of locations and recreational travel. The walks are rated Level 2 with a choice of shorter options on some days.

Itinerary Spanish Steps - Into another world

Day 1 - Arrival Day
On arrival in Montejaque you will be shown to your casita, close to the centre of the pueblo. These well appointed cottages cluster around a pool set in large gardens with great views. Each has a sitting area onto the garden, ideal for evening drinks and a barbeque if you fancy one. There are well stocked shops and restaurants close by. A welcome dinner with drinks at the Casitas restaurant is included in the price of the holiday.

Casitas - Benoajan

Ronda Gorge

Day 2 - The Camino Viejo to Ronda
The first walk from the village climbs up to the Ermita de Immaculada. We then pick up the ancient Roman path to Ronda, through delightful open countryside with far reaching views across the Serrania. After crossing the Rio Guadiaro a gradual climb takes us up to the gorge and into the town. There is time for lunch and to explore Ronda, the largest and most famous of the Pueblos Blancos. You return to Benaojan on the afternoon train and walk up to Montejaque

Day 3 - The valle de Libar
From Montejaque our walk follows the route of the Liber valley but then heads off into the heart of the Grazalema Parque Natural. We pass through pine and oak covered hillsides, green pastures and over the Correo Pass with magnificent views of the higher peaks of Grazalema. Our walk ends in Villaluenga, the highest village in the province of Cadiz.

Valle de Guadiaro

Day 4 - Montejaque to Jimera de Libar .
We walk from Montejaque down through the pretty pueblo of Benoajan to the Estacion and across the river bridge. Our walk then follows the way-marked route to Jimera. The pretty path shares the valley with the Rio Guadiaro and ' Mr Hendersons' famous railway line. For those that fancy a late lunch, there is an exceptional restaurant by the station in Jimera de Libar and then return to Benoajan by train.

Walking time 4 or 6 Hours

Day 5 - To Grazalema
Before leaving the Casitas some guests choose to visit the Cuevas de Pilata, the site of some of the oldest cave paintings known to man. The scenic drive from Montejaque to Grazalema takes about 30 minutes. The accommodation we use is a delightful small hotel in the centre of this pretty town with en suite rooms, swimming pool and gardens. Dinner with wine is provided at a restaurant close to the hotel. Game is popular but other options are available.

Grazalema

Day 6 - Salto del Cabrero
From the hotel we climb gradually to the Puerto del Boyer (1,150metres) and take a desending path to Benaocaz. It is another exceptional walk with magnificent views across mountain ranges to the plains of Jerez and on a clear day, the Atlantic coast beyond. We descend through open countryside, oaks, pines, gulleys and extraordinary limestone formations. Finally, we cross a stone bridge and arrive in the pretty village of Benaocaz.Time for refresments and return to Grazalema on the local bus.
Walking time 5 Hours.

Day 7 - Cerro Coros & Grganta Verde
This walk is recommended for the last day. It is short in distance with stunning scenery and great vantage points for raptor watching. Actual walking time is no longer than two hours but you are likely to spend a lot longer if the eagles and other raptors are flying. For those seeking a more demanding last walk, we recommend and arrange permits to add a walk into the
Garganta Verde. Another great location for raptor watching but the area is closed during the main nesting season. After either or both of these walks we recommend a visit to the unique fortress village of Zahara de la Sierra before returning to Grazalemalose by
Walking time 2 plus 4 Hours

Day 8 - Buen Viaje
After a farewell breakfast, road transfers to Malaga airport
