| Canillas Village
Based |
| This
self guided walking holiday is based in
the delightful, tranquil village of Canillas
de Albaida, situated on the edge of the Sierras
Almijara and Tejeda Parque Natural. There
are two accomodation options for
the week. Hotel based or the sole occupancy of Casa Susana. Breakfasts at Antonio's
Mirador are included with both options. The
village has excellent, inexpensive restaurants,
as well as a bakery and food shops. |

|

|
The
five daily walks are rated as Level 2. For those that choose, there is a
longer option on most days, extending the walks
by 1 to 2 hours to Level 3. Some of the walks
start from the village and others require short
road transfers on tarmac roads. |
|
Day 1 - Arrival Day
It is best to arrive
in Malaga in the early afternoon. The drive east
from the airport to Canillas de Albaida
takes about an hour. On arrival Antonio will
offer welcome drinks and you may have time for a
light tapas lunch and perhaps time to
explore the village. In the evening, you will be
invited to a welcome dinner at one of our
favourite restaurants in the village.

|
Day 2 - Cueva del Aqua
The first walk
in the program is a circular route from the
village and crosses the river valleys of the Cajula
and Llenada and into the Sierra
Tejeda. You are never far from the
village but the area feels remote with
some fine views of the mountains. You will may
choose to return to Canillas in time for a late tapas
lunch, or perhaps take the option of the longer
walk.
Walking timee 4 or 6 Hours |
|
Day
3 - La Mina
The walk
starts from Canillas with a climb to the top of
the village and into the Parques Natural.
There is a further steady climb to a saddle and
the first spectacular views of the Sierra
Almijara sweeping down to the Mediterranean.
The walk then follows part of the ancient
Cómpeta to Granada ' silk path' before returning
on a circular route to Cómpeta. Time for some
refreshment in the Plaza and then a
short level walk back to Canillas
Walking time 4 or 6 Hours

|
Day 4 - White Villages
Todays walk
starts in Salares one
of the oldest and prettiest of our pueblos
blancos. The route leaves the village over a
Roman bridge and takes a gentle river path up and
around the base of La Maroma, at over 2000 metres
the highest peak in our sierras. The white
villages constantly appear and disappear before
you descend to Sedella for
drinks and a traditional travellers lunch
Walking time 4 or 6 Hours

|
Day
5 - A day of
rest!
Many chose to
do very little other than relax in the villages.
Others may wish to explore and there is a limited
bus service to the coast from the village. Those who have opted for
self-drive have more flexibility and may choose somewhere farther afield
and perhaps take one of the excursions described
in the holiday information pack. |
|
|

|
Day 6 - The Sierras
to the west
The day starts
with a 30 minute road transfer to Canillas
de Aceituno. The journey is scenic and
well worth it and provides the opportunity to
walk the south west side of the Sierra Tejeda.
The circular walk starts and ends in the village
with a longer and higher loop for the Level 3
option. Whatever the choice, it is a great walk
with excellent sea, lake and mountain views.
Walking time 4 or 6 Hours |
|
Day 7 - Cerro Verde
This circular
walk starts with a short road transfer to the Fabrica
de la Luz and
then a steady climb through the valley of the Cueva
de Melero. There are four easy stream crossings as we
make our way up this lovely valley. The walk
continues with a steady steady climb to a wide
ridge and to the top of Cerro Verde and
spectacular views. For those preferring a more
gentle walk, there is a shorter loop back to the
Fabrica.
Walking time 4 or 6 Hours . |

|
Day 8 - Buen Viaje
Breakfast and
depending on flight times or onward travel plans,
time to leave. |
